Acts of Hope

Hello from Steyer,

We’re experimenting with new ways to connect with the content and product-building communities, where talent and clients are sometimes the exact same person—just a couple months apart.

In the last year, we’ve changed up the kinds of events we host, run several sales direct outreach A/B tests, and tried new strategies for our collective LinkedIn presence (including super thoughtful, engaging posting from director of talent strategy Genevieve Jacobsen and director of business development Jordyn Hatch). Now, we’re seeing what happens if we post more video, with community manager and recruiter Kearsten Kieran at the helm creating wonderfully on-trend social video content for our company.

You can see her first two edits on LinkedIn here and here. What I love about these videos is their fresh authenticity (they showcase actual-factual Steyer employees and how we actually work), their generosity and relatable humor (essential, especially in fraught times), and the way they share company voices that otherwise might have stayed behind the scenes. Our hope is that more people feel more connected to Steyer and think of us as a trustworthy partner to help them achieve their goals, whether that’s working on a cool team or achieving ambitious Q4 business results.

A screen printing artist friend of mine recently shared a quote from activist, pop artist, and nun (!) Corita Kent that’s helping me breathe more deeply: “Doing and making are acts of hope, and as that hope grows we stop feeling overwhelmed by the troubles of the world. We remember that we—as individuals and groups—can do something about those troubles.”

How about you? What have you tried that’s new and different for you recently, and is it giving you more of a sense of agency? Small or big, digital or physical, what are you creating these days? I’d like to hear it. And by the way, the answer can totally be “a hundred zillion job applications daily, it is apparently my art now” or even “laundry and dirty dishes, Katelyn. I just keep creating laundry and dirty dishes.”

I’m at kreilly@steyer.net.

Thanks,
Katelyn
