To make it as easy as possible for us to match you with a job, here’s what we need to have on file:
- A strong, clear resume. Send us the best draft of your resume using the above form, and when it’s time to submit you, be prepared to work with your Steyer recruiter to tweak it to showcase experience and skills relevant to the position at hand.
- Portfolio or work samples. Send this in as soon as you can, either using the form above or in a follow-up exchange with your recruiter. In terms of influencing a hiring manager to select you over another candidate, your samples are enormously important– often more important than degrees, certificates or other “proxy”-type information. Samples show what you can actually do (what you’ve already done!), and good samples reduce the hiring manager’s perceived risk enormously. Work closely with your recruiter to select samples that are:
Relevant (same audience, similar purpose, related technology)
Recent (within the last two or three years)
Polished (free of error and ready to show) - References. We don’t need these from you right away, but know that we’ll ask for two to three professional references who, ideally, have supervised your work. Peers are okay, but manager references are much more meaningful to clients as they try to get a sense for how you’ll fit with their team.
- Rate. Again, this is information we don’t need right away, and you have some options here, depending on your flexibility. If you have a firm bottom-line on required rate, it’s best to let us know as soon as possible. Or, as positions come up that would be a good match for your skill-set, you can let the recruiter tell you what the pay rates will be and tell us if you are willing to accept. Either way, it’s essential to have complete agreement on rate before a recruiter submits you for a position. Rate can’t be re-negotiated after an offer is received.
